Rosewood Ridge RP — RedM Server Rules & Roleplay Guidelines
Below are the complete rules for Rosewood Ridge RP, a serious RedM roleplay server for Red Dead Redemption 2. Understanding these rules is essential before joining our RDR2 RP community.
Key Roleplay Terms
- RDM (Random Deathmatch)
- Using deadly force against another player without meaningful dialogue or roleplay interaction. Also called “low-tier initiation.”
- Metagaming
- Using out-of-character information (from streams, Discord, etc.) that your character has not legitimately learned through in-game roleplay.
- Powergaming
- Forcing victory by any means, such as exploiting game mechanics, robbing players in menus, or faking deaths to avoid consequences.
- NVL / Fear RP (No Value for Life)
- Failing to show genuine fear for your character's life in threatening situations. Your character should act as if they only have one life.
- Fail RP
- Actions that are unrealistic or break established roleplay rules, such as killing NPCs without reason or using friends as fake hostages.
- Combat Logging
- Disconnecting or logging off during an active roleplay scene. Players must stay online at least 10 minutes after conflict RP.
Basic Terms of Service
Personal Attacks
Personal insults and verbal attacks outside of designated RP situations are prohibited. Any form of harassment will result in an immediate permanent ban.
Hate Speech
Racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, hate speech, and all forms of targeted, derogatory, or abusive language are not tolerated. Violations will result in a permanent ban.
Slavery Roleplay
Rosewood Ridge RP is set in an alternate universe where slavery does not exist. Any roleplay involving slavery is strictly prohibited and will result in a permanent ban.
Basic Community Policies
Handling Rule-Breaks
If rule-breaks occur in-game, all involved players should try to resolve the situation through roleplay without breaking character or rules. After the scene ends, players may submit reports to staff. For urgent issues, open a ticket immediately.
Exploits and Bugs
The use of glitches, exploits, hacks, or bugs for personal gain is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate permanent removal from the server. If you encounter a glitch or exploit, please notify staff or the dev team via a ticket.
General Rules
OOC Communication
Players are expected to remain in character and avoid out-of-character (OOC) talk while in towns or without explicit permission from nearby players.
In-Character Communication
All communication while in character should maintain an RP mindset to ensure immersion. Long-distance mail is discouraged, except when requesting someone to ride into town or log in to the server.
Low-Tier Initiation (RDM)
“Low-tier initiation” is defined as using “deadly” force without meaningful dialogue or interaction. This behavior will be classified as RDM (Random Deathmatch).
Character Guidelines
Age Requirement
All characters must be 18+ with no exceptions. If your character RP's as having children, they must only appear when they turn 18.
Naming Conventions
Characters must not share names with historical figures, famous people, video game characters, etc. Character names are subject to staff approval, and names deliberately similar to these examples may also require approval.
Zero Tolerance Rules
All violations in this section result in an immediate permanent ban with no appeal.
- Hate Speech: Any hate speech will result in an immediate permanent ban.
- Slurs: The use of slurs (including “N” or “R” words, among others) is forbidden.
- Sexual and Domestic Abuse RP: Any RP involving sexual or domestic abuse, or claims thereof, is prohibited.
- Meta-Item Transfer: Sharing items or money between your own characters is not allowed.
Voice Identification
Masked Players
When a player is wearing a face covering or mask, they must not be identified by voice alone. The mask must be removed to allow for valid face and voice identification.
Identifying Features
Players can be identified by unique features such as belt buckles, distinctive weapons, specific clothing sets, scars, facial structure, and other distinguishing characteristics. Voice identification alone is not permitted when a player is masked, as the voice might belong to a different character played by the same person.
RP Bleed
Separation of RP and OOC
RP bleed occurs when issues or disagreements from RP are taken OOC, or vice versa. Personal relationships and disagreements should remain separate from in-character interactions. Staff will remove anyone whose behavior undermines the goal of a healthy, safe community. Staff will not mediate personal disagreements.
Fail RP
Definition
Fail RP is defined as actions that are unrealistic or break established rules. Examples include (but are not limited to):
- Shooting the head off a downed player.
- Killing NPCs without a valid reason.
- Using a friend or gang member as a hostage.
- Escaping from Sisika without proper assistance (Sisika is a maximum-security prison and must be treated accordingly).
- Forcing supernatural beliefs onto other players (e.g., ghosts or tarot readings should not be imposed on those who do not share the belief).
Metagaming
Use of IC Information
Only use information that your character has legitimately learned through gameplay. Do not use information acquired OOC, from streams, or Discord messages unless it was given in a realistic manner (e.g., through a note or picture given in-game).
Dual Character Conflicts
If you have characters on both sides of an ongoing conflict, choose one side and stick with it until the conflict is resolved.
Powergaming
Definition
Powergaming is the act of always ensuring victory by any means or at any cost. Examples include:
- Abandoning your horse or cart during a robbery.
- Robbing or shooting someone while they are in any menu.
- Mounting a horse while handcuffed to escape (unless assisted).
- Faking a character death to avoid IC consequences (faking a death must be approved by admin via ticket).
In-Character Consequences
IC Jail and Sentences
A player may be held in IC jail for up to 24 hours OOC time. However, this requires a first-degree felony or capital charge before placement on HUT.
A judge may impose a life sentence if significant RP events warrant it. This must be consented to by the affected player, and staff must be notified. Escaping a life sentence is considered Fail RP.
Violent Strikes
The maximum allowed violent strikes is 5. Exceeding this limit may result in a life sentence or death penalty at player discretion. This is a forced RP scenario; however, players may appeal charges before a court prior to sentencing.
Ropes / Bindings
Usage
Tools like hogties and bolas are powerful RP elements. When using these restraints:
- Do not use ragdoll or lie down to escape restraints (this is considered powergaming).
- Do not restrain another player without proper scene initiation.
- Once hogtied, players should not break free during an active scene (e.g., while being carried or on a horse).
- A player may only break free from a hogtie if the restraints are “loosened” or if they have been unattended for 5 minutes.
Criminal Activity
Timing Restrictions
Crimes that trigger a law alert cannot be committed 30 minutes before or after a server restart. Law alerts include serious crimes such as grave robbing, bank robberies, and drug sales. Robbing players outside of these time constraints is allowed.
Engaging with Active Calls
Do not rob or kidnap players who are on an active doctor call. You must wait at least 5 minutes after the call ends before engaging.
Misusing Emergency Calls
It is considered powergaming to call law enforcement or medical personnel solely to rob or instigate conflict.
Drug Sales
Selling drugs or moonshine in lawless zones is strictly prohibited. This includes Van Horn, Sisika Penitentiary, Thieves Landing, and Wapiti Reservation. Doing so may result in a temp ban.
Player Robberies
Robbery vs. Killing
You cannot rob and kill simultaneously. Choose one action. This includes robbing a player's horse or wagon.
Definition of Robbery
If you search someone's pockets, you are considered to be robbing them. The only exception is when obtaining a person's ID card or removing illegal items as law enforcement.
Robbery Limits
You may only rob: all cash, one weapon, and two stacks of items (e.g., $100, one Carcano Rifle, 15 apples, and 10 water). If robbing both a player and their horse/wagon, these limits apply collectively.
Hostile Intent
You must demonstrate clear hostile intent to rob an individual and give them an opportunity to react.
NVL / Fear RP
Definition
NVL (“No Value for Life”) and Fear RP are defined as showing genuine fear for your life in threatening situations. Your character should behave as if they only have one life, rather than being fearless due to the possibility of “respawning.”
Valuing Life
Value your character's life and the lives of those they care about (e.g., law-abiding innocents, friends, or hostages).
Defensive Actions
In 1v1 or 1v2 situations, the victim is allowed to defend themselves if they see an opening.
Cooldown for Conflict
Victims of conflict must wait 1 hour after a scene ends before seeking any form of revenge or further interaction, following the Hazy Memory rule.
Body Dumping / Body Camping
- Body Disposal: Players are prohibited from dumping bodies in water or inaccessible locations.
- Double Dropping: Do not drop a body, leave, then return to move it after a doctor is called. This is considered powergaming.
- Temporary Drops: If you must temporarily drop a body in an unintended location, it will still count as your drop if you step away, as the assumption is that it is safe to call a doctor.
- Body Camping: Do not camp near a body to prevent a doctor from reviving or calling for help. Once you are out of the downed player's sight or beyond yelling distance, they may respawn or call for a doctor. Do not leave and then return.
Permanent Harm in Torture RP
Consent Requirement
Consent must be obtained in writing (via DM) from the party who will be tortured or suffer permanent physical harm before the scene takes place.
Wound Selection
The person being tortured may choose their own wounds, unless a different arrangement is agreed upon beforehand.
Corruption
Government Roles
Corruption within the DoJ or Marshals office is strictly prohibited. Violators will face both OOC and IC punishment.
Pre-Approval
Any player holding a government-overseen position must open a ticket and participate in a discussion if there are any suspicions of corrupt behavior.
Unauthorized Jurisdiction
Players may not roleplay as part of any law enforcement agency, government body, or foreign authority that has not been explicitly approved by staff via ticket or hired in county officially to do so.
This includes (but is not limited to):
- Declaring your character as a detective, agent, or officer from another nation, county, or fictional department.
- Claiming to be sent by an external agency (e.g., NYPD, Pinkertons, international courts).
- Using invented jurisdiction to investigate, interrogate, or act with implied authority over others.
Think of it like joining a D&D campaign and saying your character is a god who controls the world. It ruins immersion and fair play for everyone else.
Violations will result in character deletion, forced RP consequences, or server-level action.
Hazy Memory / New Life Rule
Memory of Events
- If you visit a player doctor, you may recall all events leading up to your character being downed — unless you have sustained a head injury. In that case, you should only remember one detail (e.g., the color of the attacker's gun wraps).
- If you respawn with a local doctor or NPC doctor, your memory of the events from the past 15-20 minutes is wiped at your discretion.
Memory Refresh
A player at the scene (who was not downed) may fully refresh your memory of the incident.
Restrictions
Do not use a local doctor or respawn if there are still players present or if roleplay is actively ongoing at the scene.
Combat Logging
Staying in the Game
Logging off in the middle of a scene (whether your character is downed or not) is prohibited.
Minimum Session Time
Players must remain logged in for at least 10 minutes after participating in any conflict RP. Logging out before this period will be counted as combat logging.
Alternate Characters
Character Diversity
Alternate characters are for exploring new stories or different aspects of RP. They must be unique and not direct relatives of an existing character unless that character has been deceased for at least 2 OOC weeks.
Story Separation
Alternate characters should have distinct backgrounds and should not immediately connect with the groups or contacts of your other characters. Crossover in passing is acceptable.
Dual Role Restrictions
You cannot switch between roles (e.g., lawman to criminal) without a cooldown period. If both characters are in the same jurisdiction, wait 15 minutes on the criminal character before committing a crime. If they are in different regions, immediate action is allowed.
Organic Story Development
Do not create alternate characters solely to advance the RP or storyline of your main characters. Let storylines develop naturally.
Horse Coloring
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Allowed | Light chalking or “paste” accents in white / cream / beige that wash out after a session (simulating chalk or clay) |
| Allowed | Natural coat patterns (roan, dun, grullo, sabino) — these are genetics, not dyes |
| Disallowed | Solid, saturated hues with no historical basis (bright pink, deep purple, neon green, etc.) |
| Disallowed | Full-body recolors that mask your horse's natural texture and pattern |
Pregnancy RP and Aging
Consent and Agreement
All aspects of pregnancy and family RP must be clearly agreed upon and consented to by both involved parties before the RP begins (e.g., duration, number of children).
Conflict Exclusion
Characters actively showing or RP'ing as pregnant must not engage in conflict RP, be used as hostages, or be robbed.
Pregnancy Duration
Pregnancy RP must last a minimum of 4 OOC weeks. After this period, the child cannot be played by another player until an additional 4 weeks have passed to simulate the child reaching 18. This 8-week total is defined as a Complete Cycle of Pregnancy RP. Roleplaying a pregnancy loss is not allowed.
Subsequent Pregnancies
To become pregnant again, wait an additional 4 weeks after the first pregnancy cycle.
Gang Rules
Official Gang Registration
To form an “official” gang, all members must be registered via a ticket. Official gangs receive a custom role, a dedicated Discord channel, and may have up to 15 members.
Non-Official Gangs
Non-official gangs are limited to 8 members.
Defensive and Aggressive Actions
Gangs may defend their home, camp, or business with up to 15 members. For aggressive actions, the +1/-1 rule must be applied.
Sisika Roleplay
Breaking into Sisika
Do not break into Sisika to sell goods or illegal items. Sisika is a maximum-security institution, and unannounced visitors will be treated as serious security threats, with severe IC consequences. Aggression against officials on the premises is considered an extreme disregard for life.
Smuggling into Sisika
- Smuggling is allowed only at night.
- Drop locations must be discussed before or during the visit.
- Only non-weapon items or item parts can be smuggled; no firearms are allowed.
- Prisoner chests and storage areas not controlled by the warden can be searched if there is suspicion.
Prison Breaks from Sisika
- Prison breaks must be approved via a ticket.
- “Lifers” are not exempt from prison break rules.
- A maximum of 2 prisoners may attempt a break at any given time.
Other Jail Breakouts
For breakouts outside Sisika, if 6 lawmen are present and two individuals try to break someone out, the +1/-1 rule does not apply.
Businesses and Homes
Realty Rights
Realty reserves the right to remove your business due to inactivity. If you are on an extended trip or concerned about repossession, open a ticket with the realty team.
Inactivity Repossession
If your business is inactive or if players have not logged in for 3 weeks (21 days), realty will repossess your business unless you have submitted an LOA ticket.
Ownership Limits
- Players are limited to one business per character, and each business must be in a different region.
- Players are limited to one home per character, with each home located in a different region.
Multi-Job Rules
Job Tiers
You cannot have more than two jobs if both are Tier 1 or 2. You may have one Tier 1 and one Tier 2 job. Ranching is not considered a job, so you may work at or own a ranch alongside two other jobs (with some restrictions).
Unique Occupations
You cannot have more than one character in the same line of work (e.g., two horse trainers or two law enforcement officers).
Animal PED Rules
Behavior
Your animal must act realistically:
- Domesticated Animals: More comfortable around humans and accustomed to established areas.
- Wild Animals: Generally fearful of humans and should limit their time in towns.
Commands
Domesticated animals (e.g., dogs or cats) can understand simple commands such as sit, stay, and follow. Wild animals will understand less and should be treated with caution.
No Animal Speech
Do not roleplay talking as an animal. Failure to comply may result in removal as a PED and potential Fail RP.
Exhaustion
Animal PEDs have unlimited stamina due to scripting limitations. You must RP signs of exhaustion; otherwise, it is considered powergaming.
Provocation
Unprovoked attacks are considered RDM. There must be adequate RP beforehand (e.g., a dog growling and barking).
Additional Law Dog Rules
Only one law dog per jurisdiction is allowed. The law dog must be staff-approved and assigned to a designated handler of Sergeant rank or higher.
General Camp & Build Rules
Restricted Areas
Do not camp or build in Wildlife Preserves, Historic Sites, or Legendary Hunt Areas. If unsure, open a ticket with your location details.
Safety Requirements
When building on cliffs or near waterfalls, include a blockade-type structure for safety.
Access and Obstruction
Do not block public roads, pathways, entrances, exits, or access to any public or private areas. Building on private property, whether owned or unowned, will result in immediate camp destruction.
Electricity Restrictions
Camps must not include “electricity” furniture objects such as street lamps or chandeliers.
Appearance
Realism
Characters with exaggerated or unrealistic facial/body proportions that could be seen as troll characters are not allowed.
Approval for Unique Features
If you wish to create a character with unconventional features, submit a ticket for approval beforehand.
Scar Removal
You may start with a scar during character creation; however, if you wish to remove it, you must do so gradually (e.g., lowering the scar's opacity by 0.1 every 2 weeks).
Hair and Facial Hair
Do not change your hair or facial hair colors drastically more than once within a 24-hour period.
Scene Rules
/scene Command
Use the /scene command to enhance scenes or provide RP context for events that cannot be visually seen. Temporary RP scenes left for more than 4 weeks may be removed by staff.

Erotic Roleplay
Tier 1: OOC Consent Rules (Non-Negotiable)
Before any sexual scene, both parties must exchange explicit, out-of-character agreement in Discord DMs. Screenshots or message links must be kept as “receipts.”
- a. Mutual, documented consent is mandatory. Players should open with a statement such as: “I'm comfortable with an ERP scene that includes X, Y, Z. Are you okay with that?” The partner must answer affirmatively in the same channel.
- b. No consent = immediate stop. If consent is refused, withdrawn, or never documented, the scene ends on the spot. Continuing anyway is treated as a server-level violation.
- c. Forbidden language. Words or emotes that explicitly reference “rape,” “sexual assault,” or similar real-world trauma terms are prohibited in every channel, IC or OOC. Players may describe coercion only with softer period-appropriate euphemisms and only when the scene is an agreed-upon, consenting narrative.
- d. Age gating. All ERP participants must be 18+ IRL and their characters must be 18+. No exceptions, no “time skips,” no fade-to-black dodge.
- e. Staff override. Admins/Staff reserve the right to review receipts, halt any scene, or retroactively void consent if a complaint arises. Players who refuse to produce receipts are presumed to have lacked consent.
Tier 2: Server-Level Rule Breaks (Ban / Suspension)
A player crosses the OOC line, and risks a ban, when any of the following occur:
- They initiate sexual emotes or animations through the /love menu without documented consent.
- They continue an ERP scene after the partner says “stop,” or otherwise withdraws consent.
- They force another player to emote or animate sexual acts by powergaming or threat of OOC retaliation.
- They use forbidden trauma terms in public chat, Discord, or VOIP.
- They attempt ERP with a player who is a minor IRL or whose character is under 18.
First offense = 7-day suspension; second offense = permanent ban. Severity may escalate instantly for egregious behavior.
Tier 3: In-Character Law Issues (RP Consequences Only)
Even when everyone followed Tier 1, characters can still break Rosewood Ridge law and face arrest, trial, or fines under the Penal Code:
- Coercive Intimacy (PC 2.07): Any non-consensual or drug-facilitated act. Staff won't punish the players if Tier 1 consent was documented, but lawmen can charge the characters.
- Solicitation for Prostitution (PC 5.09): A character pays for, or advertises, sexual services in public.
- Keeping of a Brothel (PC 5.10): A character runs a business devoted to paid intimacy.
- Public Indecency: Two consenting adults caught in graphic acts in a public place.
Arrests here are purely IC; staff steps in only if OOC misconduct is alleged.
Quick-Reference Summary
| Tier | Scope | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Protects the players. Missing consent = staff action. | Staff review & intervention |
| Tier 2 | Defines bannable behavior. Break these, OOC consequences follow. | 7-day suspension / permanent ban |
| Tier 3 | Purely in-game crime. Follow Tier 1 and you're safe from bans. | IC arrest, trial, fines |
