📖 Overview

The medical profession is one of the most in-demand whitelisted roles in Rosewood Ridge. Every time a player is shot, beaten, or falls from their horse, they need a doctor. Unlike many roles, a doctor's services are genuinely needed — not just desired — which places you in virtually every major server event and incident.

Doctors interact with law enforcement, outlaws, ranchers, and townspeople alike. Critically, the Hippocratic Oath applies IC — a doctor treats the wounded regardless of who they are, which can create morally complex and compelling roleplay scenarios.

Whitelist Required

All medical roles are managed through the Department of Health (DOH) hierarchy. Applications are reviewed for roleplay capability, maturity, and a genuine commitment to the role's demands — being a doctor is not a passive job.

🏥 Medical Departments

The medical system in Rosewood Ridge is structured across several regional bodies:

📋 How to Join

  1. Develop a credible character

Your character should have a believable medical background — frontier surgeon, former war medic, self-taught from experience, or educated back East. Build this into your character's story before applying.

  2. Submit an application

Apply through the Discord or in-character via the Surgeon General's Office contact. Applications ask about your character's background, your RP experience, your availability, and how you'd handle key scenarios.

  3. Complete orientation

New doctors go through an IC orientation covering treatment protocols, billing procedures, and the ethical guidelines specific to Rosewood Ridge's medical system.

Treatments & Services

As a doctor, you have access to a full medical system that represents your professional abilities. These go beyond what any civilian can do for themselves:

Doctor Commands

CommandWhat it DoesWho Can Use
/ondutyGo on duty — required to access prescription items and treatment menusDoctor only
/offdutyGo off dutyDoctor only
/inspectInspect a nearby player's active conditions, vital signs, heart rate, and body temperatureDoctor only
/visitBegin a medical visit with a nearby player — opens the treatment menuDoctor only
/calldoctorAlert on-duty Doctors with your map location (for patients)Any player
/sendhelpRequest a self-revive NPC when no Doctor is availableAny downed player

Trauma & Wound Treatment

Stabilise and treat bleeding wounds, wound infections (including sepsis), and broken bones. These are the most common calls you'll receive. Use /visit on a player to open their treatment panel and select which conditions to treat.

Disease Treatment

Diagnose and treat diseases through the visit menu. Use /inspect to see a patient's current conditions — including heart rate, body temperature, and active diseases — before deciding which treatment to administer. The available diseases are:

  • Bleeding — Bandages, Army Bandage, Tourniquet
  • Wound Infection — Antibiotic (80%), Morphine (100%), Health Elixir (60%)
  • Broken Bone — Full clear via Doctor treatment; Splint provides partial relief
  • Common Cold — Antibiotic (100%), Herbal Medicine (50%)
  • Snake Bite — Antidote (Anti-Poison Remedy, 100%) — Doctor-stocked item
  • Malaria — Insect Bite Remedy (80%), Morphine (50%), Health Elixir (60%)
  • Cholera — Antibiotic + Herbal Medicine; serious cases need Health Elixir
  • Dysentery — Herbal Medicine (80%), Antibiotic (50%)
  • Heat Stroke — Potent Restorative (100%), Stimulant Tonic (30%)

Reviving Incapacitated Players

When a player is downed, only an on-duty Doctor can revive them using either a Syringe (20s, full health) or Lavender Smelling Salts (15s, partial health). Approach the downed player and use /visit to trigger the revive option.

Prescription Dispensing

Many treatment items are only available through an on-duty Doctor. You stock your own supply and dispense items directly to patients — everything from Antibiotics and Antidotes to Morphine and Health Elixirs.

💰
Charge for Your Services

Medical treatment is a valued professional service. Set clear pricing for different treatment types — a field revive, a full examination, a prescription refill. Consistent pricing builds your reputation as a businessperson as well as a healer.

🤖 NPC Patient System

Between direct player call-outs, doctors can take on NPC patient cases at the medical clinic. These scripted patients arrive with standard ailments and pay consultation fees for treatment, providing a reliable baseline income between active RP stints.

  • NPC patience cases are straightforward — examine, treat, collect payment.
  • They don't replace player-driven RP but provide meaningful activity and income during quieter periods.
  • Each treated NPC contributes to your long-term medical reputation tracked within the DOH system.

🏠 Running Your Practice

The best doctors treat their role as a full character arc, not just a system function:

  • Keep your clinic location known to law enforcement and bounty hunters who need rapid medical support.
  • Post your duty hours in Discord so the community knows when a doctor is available.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality IC — a doctor who shares patient information with law enforcement without consent is violating medical ethics (and potentially the Penal Code).
  • Develop specialisations: a surgeon known for battlefield trauma is a different character from a pharmacist managing chronic conditions.
Treat Everyone

The medical oath in Rosewood Ridge is taken seriously. Refusing to treat a patient because of their criminal status or faction can create serious IC and OOC conflict. Roleplay neutrality in your medical practice — it's part of what makes the doctor role compelling.

💡 Tips for New Doctors

  • Build a kit: carry treatment supplies with you at all times, not just when officially on duty. Emergencies don't wait for clinic hours.
  • Network with law enforcement early — they will be your most frequent callers.
  • Create a billing system (even a simple one) to track who owes you for services. Unpaid medical debt is a legitimate IC grievance you can pursue through the courts.
  • Roleplay examinations thoroughly: ask questions, describe findings, explain your reasoning. Players treasure meaningful medical RP over a simple "you're healed" click.
  • Connect with other doctors to ensure coverage across time zones — a territory without any active doctor is a dangerous place.
