Overview
Law enforcement in Rosewood Ridge is a serious, whitelisted role that forms the backbone of the server's criminal justice ecosystem. Lawmen don't just chase outlaws — they conduct investigations, process arrests, testify in court, manage jails, coordinate with the Department of Justice, and respond to emergencies across the territory.
If you want a role with depth, purpose, and constant interaction with almost every other job and faction on the server, law enforcement is it.
All law enforcement roles in Rosewood Ridge require approval and assignment through the Department of Justice hierarchy. You must apply in-character or through the Discord application process — walk-in whitelists are not available.
Departments & Ranks
Rosewood Ridge's law enforcement consists of several distinct agencies, each covering different jurisdictions and operating under different command structures:
Sheriff's Offices
Each county in the territory has its own Sheriff's Office responsible for local jurisdiction:

Standard Sheriff ranks progress from Deputy → Sergeant → Lieutenant → Undersheriff → Sheriff.
US Marshals Service
Federal jurisdiction — operates across the entire territory and has authority over regional sheriffs in federal matters. Rank structure: Deputy Marshal → Marshal → Chief Marshal → Attorney General.
US Cavalry
Military law enforcement with specific jurisdiction over federal lands and territories. Rank structure: Trooper → Corporal → Sergeant → Lieutenant → Captain.
Sheriff offices handle the day-to-day — local crime, bar fights, robberies. Marshals tackle inter-county fugitives and federal offenses. Cavalry is best for those who enjoy military-style structure and discipline. All are valuable and interconnected.
How to Join

Develop your character
Law enforcement applications require a believable, established character. Your IC history should include reasons why this person would seek a badge — a rancher tired of outlaw raids, a war veteran seeking order, a young idealist.

Submit an application
Applications for law enforcement roles are processed through the Discord or in-character via the relevant department's command structure. Check the Discord for current openings and the application format.

Pass the review
Applications are reviewed by department leadership. Expect questions about your RP experience, your understanding of the Penal Code, and your character's background.

Complete field training
New officers are typically assigned a Field Training Officer (FTO) for their first several shifts. This is where you learn department-specific procedures, radio protocols, and how to handle common situations.
Going On Duty
When you're ready to work, going on duty shifts your character into their law enforcement role with access to department-specific equipment, radio channels, and system tools.
- Use the duty menu to clock in — this activates your role, gives you access to arrest and jailing tools, and starts your duty pay clock.
- Don appropriate uniform and equipment for your department before engaging with the public.
- Announce your presence on the duty radio channel so other officers know you're covering your jurisdiction.
Operating outside established law enforcement procedures — illegal arrests, abuse of power, planting evidence — is a serious in-character and out-of-character violation. Officers are held to a higher standard by both the community and server administration.
Tools & Equipment
Law enforcement personnel have access to a dedicated set of tools unavailable to ordinary citizens:
- Handcuffs / Rope — to physically restrain arrested individuals.
- Jail System — to process and sentence prisoners with an IC jail time based on charges.
- Bounty Issuance — senior officers can post wanted notices on the territory's bounty boards.
- Duty Weapons — access to department-standard firearms appropriate for law enforcement operations.
- Alert System — send and receive officer callout alerts for emergencies, pursuits, and backup requests.
- Storage — access to department armouries and evidence storage.
Arrests & Jailing
Processing an arrest is one of the most fundamental law enforcement actions. It must follow proper procedure to be legally valid under the Rosewood Ridge Penal Code:

Establish probable cause
You must have a legitimate IC reason to detain someone. Witness testimony, observed criminal activity, or a valid warrant are all legitimate grounds. "I don't like the look of them" is not.

Detain and restrain
Inform the individual they are being detained and apply restraints. Read them their rights and inform them of the charges being considered.

Process at the jail
Transport the prisoner to the appropriate jail facility. Use the in-game menu to select the charges, confirm the sentence, and begin their jail time.

Document the arrest
File a report in the appropriate channel or system. Documented arrests create the paper trail needed for trials and ensures accountability.
Issuing Bounties
Officers of sufficient rank within qualifying departments can issue formal bounties on known criminals who have evaded capture or escaped custody. The bounty is posted to all bounty boards in the territory and activates the bounty hunter network.
Not every officer can place a bounty. Minimum rank requirements apply: Grade 3+ for most Sheriff departments, Grade 1+ for US Marshals. Check with your department command before issuing.
Tips for New Officers
- Read the full Penal Code before your first shift — you'll be expected to know it.
- Never go into a dangerous situation alone. Request backup on radio before attempting any arrest of a potentially armed individual.
- Build relationships with doctors — you'll be working with them regularly when officers or civilians are injured.
- Stay patient. Law RP is often about de-escalation and procedure, not firefights. The best officers resolve situations with words first.
- Maintain strict IC/OOC separation. You may interact with friends' characters in adversarial situations — keep it professional.
- Earn your promotions. Seniority in law enforcement comes with additional tools and authority — be the officer who deserves it.
