The backbone of the frontier economy — farmers grow the food that feeds the territory. It's steady, patient work that rewards consistency and careful management over the frantic pace of outlawry.
Overview
Farming in Rosewood Ridge is an open occupation available to any citizen. It requires no special license or application — just a willingness to work the land, manage a grow cycle, and transport your harvest to market. Farming forms a cornerstone of the server's supply chain: crops harvested by farmers end up as cargo in contract deliveries, goods stocked in player-run shops, and the raw materials for other trades.
It's one of the most self-directed jobs available. You set your own schedule, work at your own pace, and — when done well — build a reliable income stream that doesn't depend on other players' demand.
Farming pairs naturally with the Corn Delivery contract job — harvest your own produce and then run the delivery contract yourself, double-dipping on the value of your crop.
How Farming Works

Find your plot
Farming plots are available at designated field areas around the territory — near Flatneck Station, around Emerald Ranch, and in parts of New Austin near Armadillo. Look for the farming markers on the map.

Plant your seeds
Interact with the plot to begin the planting process. Different crops have different seed costs and grow times. Corn is the most common and most in-demand crop.

Wait for the grow cycle
Crops grow over real time. You don't need to stay logged in — check back when the grow cycle completes. Your yield is ready to harvest.

Harvest and load
Interact with the mature crop to harvest your yield. Load the produce onto your wagon or horse for transport.

Deliver to market
Take your harvest to a town market, grain store, or registered buyer. Payment is made on delivery based on crop type and quantity.

Corn has the best combination of grow speed, sale price, and contract utility. If you're starting out, focus entirely on corn until you've established a reliable income base before diversifying.
Delivering Your Harvest
Harvest delivery is where farming and the contract system intersect:
- You can sell your crop directly to the nearest town market for immediate payment.
- Alternatively, use the Corn Delivery contract to transport a large load of corn for significantly higher pay per unit — the contract rewards the full haul, not just the individual crop value.
- A wagon or large packhorse dramatically increases how much produce you can move per trip. A single-run delivery on horseback is far less efficient than a loaded wagon.
Never take half a load to market. Fill your wagon completely before making a delivery run — a full load can earn you 4-5× what a partial trip would. Patience before the trip equals significantly higher pay.
Scaling Your Farm
Farming genuinely scales with investment. The more plots you can work simultaneously, the greater your output:
- Work multiple plots across different locations to stagger your harvests — instead of one large harvest every few days, have something ready every session.
- Partner with another farmer to share plot management. You tend their plots when they're offline; they do the same for you.
- Connect with a shop owner or rancher as a dedicated buyer — selling direct at a negotiated rate bypasses market fluctuations and guarantees income.
Tips for Farmers
- Plant before you log off for the night — crops grow in real time, so offline grow cycles are free income.
- Get a wagon early. The upfront investment in a cart pays back within a few delivery cycles through dramatically improved per-trip yields.
- Consider the market location when choosing where to farm — a plot near Valentine is easier to deliver to Blackwater or Saint Denis than one in New Austin.
- Farming is excellent background RP. Setting up a planting session while discussing business with another character IC is one of the most natural activities in the territory.
