Deep in the rock faces and caverns of the territory lie fortunes waiting to be dug up — if you're willing to do the hard work. The mines of the west don't give up their treasure easily.
Overview
Mining is one of the most rewarding extraction trades in Rosewood Ridge — and one of the most dangerous. The territory is riddled with rich rock faces, cave systems, and abandoned mineshafts that hold everything from common iron ore to glittering gold nuggets and rare gemstones.
No license is required. Pick up a pickaxe, find a rock, and start striking. The deeper you dig — figuratively — into the mechanics, the more valuable your haul becomes.
Getting Started

Get a Pickaxe
You'll need a Pickaxe item in your inventory. Purchase one from a blacksmith shop or player trader. Like the lumberjack's axe, this is a dedicated tool that degrades with use — bring a repair item too.

Locate a mining area
Mining spots show as marked rocks in the world once you're near them. You can also use the /miningarea command to reveal a specific mine's area blip on the map, helping you navigate to a productive spot.

Approach a rock and begin mining
Walk up to a marked rock outcrop and use the on-screen prompt to start. Your character will play the pickaxe swing animation and extract ore with each hit.

Collect and sell your ore
Resources go directly into your inventory as you mine. When your satchel is full — or you're done for the session — ride to a buyer, trade post, or sell directly to crafters.
Finding Mining Spots
Rock outcrops for mining are scattered across the frontier, concentrated near cliff faces, canyon walls, and historic mine sites. Use the /miningarea command with a number to reveal a specific area on your map:
Key mining regions include the Annesburg mine in Roanoke Ridge, cave systems near Elysian Pool, and the Big Valley caves in West Elizabeth. Each region tends to yield different ore types depending on the local geology.
Depleted rocks respawn after roughly 10 minutes. Unlike trees, mining spots refresh much faster — meaning a well-chosen location can be worked in rotation throughout a single session.
What You Can Find
The territory holds seven distinct mineable materials, ranging from common and useful to rare and highly valuable:

Iron and coal are in consistent demand from gunsmiths who use them to repair broken weapons. If you sell direct to a gunsmith rather than to a generic sell point, you'll usually get a better rate — and they'll keep coming back.
Pickaxe Maintenance
Your pickaxe wears down with each swing. A degraded pickaxe becomes less effective and eventually breaks, ending your session until repaired.
- Carry a repair item (typically a sharpening stone or equivalent) in your satchel for field repairs.
- Use the on-screen repair prompt when your pickaxe condition gets low — don't wait until it snaps.
- Each repair restores a random amount of condition. Multiple repair sessions may be needed on a long mining day.
If your pickaxe breaks with no repair item on hand, you'll have to return to town and buy a new one. The cost cuts into your session earnings — always carry at least two repair items.
Mining Achievements
The mining system tracks your long-term progress through an achievement system. Each ore type has its own milestone goals — hit a collection target and claim your reward in cash or bonus items.
- Achievements are tracked per character cumulatively. Even small mining sessions contribute to your progress.
- Higher-tier milestones (Gold Collector, Emerald Collector, etc.) offer the most substantial rewards and are worth pursuing as long-term goals.
- Check your achievement progress via the in-game menu to see how close you are to the next claim.
Tips & Strategy
- Bring a large saddlebag or wagon — ore adds up fast and you don't want to cut a session short because your horse is overloaded.
- Mine in areas with multiple rock outcrops close to each other to minimise travel time between strikes.
- Check the /miningarea blips before you ride out — different regions yield different ore. Plan your trip based on what you want to sell.
- Don't neglect iron and coal. They're common, but consistent demand from crafters means you can move volume quickly at a fair price.
- Be cautious when mining in secluded areas. Deep mine shafts and remote canyons are popular ambush locations for outlaws.
Remote mining locations attract outlaws and bandits who know miners carry valuables. Consider mining with a partner or near a populated area until you're confident in handling threats on your own.
