Public Jobs

Not every job on the frontier requires a license or a reputation. For honest citizens looking to put food on the table, public work is always available in the towns of the territory.

📖 Overview

Public Jobs are the backbone of economic opportunity for new and casual players. No application, no license, no prior experience — just show up in a town, pick up a work assignment, and get paid for completing it. These jobs simulate the kinds of day labour that would have kept frontier towns running: carrying materials, sweeping streets, chopping wood, making deliveries.

They're not glamorous, and they won't make you rich overnight. But they provide reliable baseline income while you build toward a more specialised career — and they're always available.

Perfect for New Players

If you just arrived in Rosewood Ridge and need money to buy a horse, gear up, or rent accommodation — public jobs are how you start. They require nothing, pay immediately, and teach you the basics of getting around the map.

How It Works

  1. Find a job posting location

Look for public job markers in town — typically near town centres, docks, construction sites, or oil fields. These are marked on the map as relevant blips.

  2. Pick up the job

Interact with the job board or foreman NPC to accept an available task. You'll receive a brief description and a destination or set of waypoints.

  3. Complete the task

Follow the waypoints and complete the assigned work — carry items from A to B, clean up marked areas, chop firewood at designated spots, etc.

  4. Collect your wages

Upon completing all objectives, your payment is automatically deposited. The amount varies based on distance travelled and time taken.

Different Towns, Different Jobs

Not every job type is available in every town. Labour and construction work appears near growing settlements like Blackwater. Dock distribution is a Sisika Penitentiary-area exclusive. Explore multiple towns to find the job type that pays best for your location.

🗺 Where to Find Work

Public job pickup locations are spread across major settlements in the territory:

  • Valentine — General labour, deliveries, sweeping around the main street
  • Blackwater — Construction labour near the town expansion areas
  • Saint Denis — Multiple job types, highest variety in the territory
  • Armadillo — Basic labour and sweeping in the desert settlement
  • Oil Fields (Roanoke Ridge) — Water and oil carrying work at the derricks
  • Sisika (Dock Area) — Distribute job delivering supplies around the dock

💵 How Pay is Calculated

Public job wages aren't flat — they scale with two factors, making longer or more active assignments pay more than short ones:

  • Distance — The further you travel during a job, the more you earn per run. Longer delivery routes pay better than compact sweeping tasks.
  • Time — You also earn a small per-second rate while actively on assignment. Staying engaged with the task continuously is better than stopping to socialise mid-job.
  • Each job type has its own multiplier applied to these base rates — Construction Labour and Wood Chopping are the most rewarding types.

Best Earn Rate

Labour (construction) and Wood Chopping both carry a 1.5× multiplier — the highest available. If you want to maximise your public job income, prioritise these two types, especially in towns with longer waypoint chains like Saint Denis.

💡 Tips for Maximising Earnings

  • Always pick up work in the highest-multiplier job category available — Labour and Wood Chopping first, Sweep last.
  • Saint Denis offers the most job variety and some of the longest waypoint chains — it's the best single location for public job income.
  • Bring a horse. Most public jobs involve moving between points — being on horseback is significantly faster than walking, which increases your pay rate per hour of real time.
  • Chain multiple jobs back-to-back. After completing one run, immediately pick up another. Total session income adds up quickly with consistent chaining.
  • Public jobs can be done while maintaining a conversation IC — they're a great activity for sociable roleplay while also earning money.
