Undertaker
Every frontier town needs someone to make sure the dead are treated with dignity. The undertaker prepares bodies, manages burials, and serves the community in its darkest hours — while occasionally uncovering what the earth has quietly been keeping.
Overview
The undertaker is a whitelisted roleplay profession centred on death care in the frontier. When a player's character dies, the undertaker steps in — preparing the body with the appropriate rites, placing them in a casket, and escorting them to one of the territory's graveyards for burial.
Income comes from burial fees paid by the server economy, with significant bonuses for using optional preparation items. Beyond that, undertakers also carry a shovel — and the frontier soil has a way of hiding things worth finding.
The undertaker job must be applied for and approved. It is a roleplay-heavy role — you are expected to engage respectfully with the death RP loop, coordinate with families, lawmen, and doctors, and show up when the community needs you.
Getting Started
-
Apply for the role
Submit a whitelist application in the Discord or through the server website. Explain your character's background and how they came to work in funeral services on the frontier.
-
Stock your supplies
A prepared undertaker keeps burial supplies on hand at all times. Core items — Burial Perfume Oil, Burial Wraps, and Good-bye Liquor — can be purchased from the Undertaker Supply shops or crafted. For maximum payout, craft the premium items: a Flower Arrangement or Hunter's Gold Eye Coins add solid bonuses, while the top-tier Embalming Salts and Memorial Incense Bundle command the highest multipliers and must be crafted from raw materials.
-
Carry a shovel
A Shovel item is required for burial and also enables treasure digging — a useful secondary income stream described below.
-
Know your burial sites
The two primary graveyards are located in Blackwater and Saint Denis. Familiarise yourself with both locations — and the co-ordinates of the prep table at each — before you take your first body.
Prepping Bodies
When a player character dies and needs burial, the undertaker uses the Prep Body menu to begin the process:
-
Locate the body
Bodies can be prepped anywhere on the map (Config option). Approach the deceased player and open the Prep Body interaction menu.
-
Add burial items
The prep menu lets you add optional burial items from your inventory. Each item you add increases the final payout multiplier. You can add as many as you have on hand — or do a basic burial with none.
-
Close the casket
When you're satisfied with the preparation, select Close Casket and Prepare for Burial. This finalises the pre-burial state.
-
Carry the casket
Use the Carry Casket option to lift it. You are now responsible for transporting the departed to the burial site — typically via wagon.
-
Head to the burial site
Transport the casket to the relevant graveyard (Blackwater or Saint Denis depending on which is designated for the character). Once at the grave, perform the burial to receive your payment.
A Normal Burial pays the base rate ($2). A Prep Burial multiplies that rate based on the items you added. The core three items alone push you to 5×. Crafted items like Embalming Salts (+6.5×) or a Memorial Incense Bundle (+4×) are where the real money is — but they must be crafted, not bought. Stocking your kit before you head out is always worthwhile.
Burial Items & Payout Bonuses
Each item you add to a prepped body increases your final burial payout via a bonus multiplier. Items are consumed on use. Stock up before a busy day:
| Item | Bonus Multiplier | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Burial Perfume Oil | +1.00× | Core supply — buy at supply shop or craft |
| Burial Wraps | +1.00× | Core supply — buy at supply shop or craft |
| Good-bye Liquor | +1.00× | Core supply — buy at supply shop or craft |
| Flower Arrangement | +1.50× | Craft only — Blood Flower, Lavender, Yarrow |
| Hunter's Gold Eye Cover-Coins | +1.00× | Craft only — Golden Nuggets & Coal |
| Honey | +0.20× | Minor bonus — buy at supply shop |
| Wine | +0.25× | Minor bonus — buy at supply shop |
| Joint | +0.15× | Minor bonus — buy at supply shop |
| Acid | +1.00× | Requires sourcing from the right traders |
| Syn | +0.25× | Craft only — herbal tincture |
| Embalming Salts | +6.50× | Craft only — Salt, Silver Ore, Sulfur — top tier |
| Memorial Incense Bundle | +4.00× | Craft only — Blood Flower, Desert Sage, Lavender, Yarrow |
Bonuses from all added items are cumulative. The three core supply items together already push the multiplier to 5×. Add a Flower Arrangement and Hunter's Gold Eye Coins for a 7.5× total. Stack in Embalming Salts (craft only, +6.5×) and a Memorial Incense Bundle (craft only, +4×) alongside your other items for a payout that reflects a truly premium burial.
Burial Sites
There are two official graveyard locations where burials can be completed:
| Location | Job Title | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blackwater | bwundertaker | South-west end of town, near the cemetery |
| Saint Denis | sdundertaker | Eastern Saint Denis cemetery district |
Each location has a preparation table where the body is placed before final burial. The burial plot itself is a short walk from the prep area. Bodies can only be buried at the site corresponding to their undertaker designation.
Each undertaker character can process up to 50 bodies per server restart cycle. This is more than enough for a normal shift — but if you're the only undertaker on during a high-casualty event (shootout, mass PvP, etc.), you may want to conserve prep items.
Shovel Digging & Treasure Finds
Undertakers carry a shovel as part of the job — and that shovel isn't just for graves. Between burials, you can dig in the wilderness for buried treasure and cash.
- Find a valid dig spot outside of towns (digging in settlements is prohibited).
- Use your shovel to dig — each dig can yield $1–$5 cash or a random item from the treasure pool.
- Digging is subject to weather and cooldown conditions — don't expect to dig in the same spot twice in quick succession.
- You cannot dig near animals. Stick to open wilderness areas.
Potential Treasure Finds
The dig pool is large — you have a chance to surface anything from common raw materials to rare gems and contraband. Most finds will be everyday resources: wood, coal, sap, crops, or herbs. Uncommon digs may turn up gold nuggets, silver ore, uncut gemstones, or useful wild plants. Rare finds include precious stones, exotic reagents, and items that are harder to come by through normal means.
| Rarity | Examples |
|---|---|
| Very Common | Coal, Bark, Sap, Wood, Fibers, Rock, Clay, Potato, Wheat, Honey |
| Common | Hard Wood, Salt, Hop, Coffee Beans, Copper Ore, Lead Ore, Cannabis Leaves, Yarrow, various crops |
| Uncommon | Gold Nugget, Iron Ore, Silver Ore, Uncut Ruby, Uncut Emerald, Desert Sage, Blood Flower, Syn, Joint |
| Rare | Uncut Diamond, Platinum Ore, Uncut Sapphire, Acid, exotic herbs & roots |
Digging is restricted within established settlements. If you attempt to dig in a town, you'll receive a "can't dig in towns" warning. Head out into the open wilderness — riverbanks, hillsides, and remote clearings are all fair game.
Tips & Strategy
- Keep your core burial supplies (oil, wraps, liquor) well-stocked at all times. Running dry mid-shift means lower payouts on every burial until you resupply.
- Coordinate with the Doctor — they handle the living, you handle the deceased. A good working relationship between these two roles makes death RP seamless for everyone.
- Craft your Embalming Salts (Salt + Silver Ore + Sulfur) and Memorial Incense Bundles (Blood Flower + Desert Sage + Lavender + Yarrow) at any crafting station. These are your highest-value burial items and cannot be purchased — they must be crafted.
- Keep a batch of Flower Arrangements and Hunter's Gold Eye Coins on hand — both are craft-only but use farmable plants and gold nuggets. Good for premium burials without the mining grind.
- Shovel digging between calls is a reliable way to fill slow periods and supplement your income. Keep your shovel equipped and dig as you travel between towns.
- Carry a wagon or horse with large bags — caskets need to be physically transported, and you may be moving between Blackwater and Saint Denis in a single shift.
- The undertaker role is as much about atmosphere as mechanics. Dress the part, speak respectfully to grieving families, and take the roleplay seriously — this role elevates the entire server's death RP experience.
The undertaker is one of the few jobs that interacts with nearly every player — eventually. Lawmen, doctors, criminals, and civilians all pass through your care at some point. Playing this role well makes the server feel more alive, even when dealing with the dead.
